Samsung drives art appreciation in Hong Kong with artist Balloon Bear and bespoke creations

Samsung Electronics HK and SHOUT Art Hub & Gallery, a contemporary pop art gallery in Hong Kong, have teamed up with Jibin Im, a Korean pop artist, to present a series of Hong Kong edition artworks for all art lovers.

As part of the campaign, a giant 2.5 meter Balloon Bear Art installation made its first stop in Harbor City, which instantly became a popular spot for selfies. The Balloon Bear is now on display at SHOUT Gallery, IFC mall, Central, and will tour various SHOUT galleries in Hong Kong until September 1, 2022.

The featured artwork is inspired by Samsung The Frame, known for its slim profile and customizable design, which looks like a painting. Since its launch, Frame’s Art Store has curated a diverse catalog of artwork from renowned galleries and artists around the world, which has deepened artistic and aesthetic exchanges.

Korean pop artist Im will also create a series of limited-edition art collections called ‘Frame Your Love’, in which he recreated the famous ‘You Are Not Alone’ series of embracing bears for the first time in digital and physical formats. He also showcased his famous “Everywhere” project in Hong Kong – a giant balloon bear art installation that has already captivated people as it sets foot across the globe. This collaboration marks Im’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, showcasing a series of artworks that transcend the boundaries between art, technology and reality.

He collaborated with several international brands on this project, such as GUCCI, Coca-Cola and Mercedes-Benz. His work has been featured in over 40 cities around the world, including some well-known landmarks in the United States, United Kingdom, Thailand, and Taiwan.

Im was recently invited by Samsung X SHOUT Gallery to create a giant Balloon Bear art installation for Hong Kong, bringing back his iconic black and white balloon bear color combination with the word “CHILL” on his face.

“Frame Your Love” is Im’s first art project that bridges the physical and digital experience. Through this collaboration with Samsung X SHOUT Gallery, Im has introduced five new colors in its popular hugging bear series titled “You are not alone”, exclusively for Hong Kong. Equipped with the latest matte display technology, which reduces screen glare and glare to deliver excellent color performance, this digital canvas brought cuddly bears into the digital world, capturing every finer detail .

“Although the pandemic has limited the way we appreciate art, innovative technology has inspired me and enabled me to push the boundaries of artistic expression – to digitize my art and make it accessible to more people,” Im said. “Earlier this year, I was featured in a video in collaboration with Samsung, and I was impressed with how their latest technology is able to deliver such vivid and authentic texture and colors on screens. Therefore , I am honored to collaborate with Samsung again, to create the “Frame Your Love” series which places more emphasis on color expressions, transforming the “You are not alone” series into digital works of art displayed on Samsung The Frame, highlighting the unique magic of artworks with its artistic and slim photo frame design and cutting-edge color performance that skillfully blends digital and physical,” said Jibin Im.

Samsung is working closely with SHOUT Gallery to also create a series of activities for art lovers, and brings together five artists. Among them, international media artist Hung Keung and local animation artist Kongkee showcase their latest NFT artwork using Samsung The Frame. Samsung will soon partner with SHOUT Gallery to host a large-scale Art Tech exhibition, sparking a new wave of art appreciation in Hong Kong.
