Centralia Coffee Stand Partners With Elementary School To Celebrate Youth Art Appreciation Month

Love your life. You are a superstar. Have fun today.
These are just a few of the positive messages that adorn the coffee bags at The Cup, a booming coffee stand along North Pearl Street in Centralia.
While supplies last, each coffee mug pouch in The Cup is uniquely decorated by a student at Oakview Elementary School, located a short distance from the coffee stand.
Company owner Jessi Gilliam used to teach her kids at home and during that time she got into the habit of celebrating Youth Art Appreciation Month and other similar events.
When that happened this year, she looked for a way to involve schools and the community, knowing the two were going through tough times.
“When I think of joy, I think of my children’s art,” said Gilliam.
So she called Oakview Elementary.
She noted that she was nervous at first to ask the school about it, but when they heard her idea, they were elated.
She sent a box of 500 pouches to the school, which decorated them, disinfected using UV technology and returned them to her.
Gilliam and her partner opened The Cup on November 7th. As her business grows, she hopes her legacy will be one of community building.
“Community is everything to us,” said Gilliam.
To encourage participation, Gilliam says customers who post a photo of their drink and decorative pouch on social media with the hashtags #TheCup and “#CentraliaSchools will be entered for a chance to win a $ 15 gift card. .
