Entering through the doors of the charming Art Station is like a visit to the studio of a famous artist. There are tall shelves full of mysterious supplies, large work tables, open space, and lots of light. Art Central’s Creative Learning Center is a non-profit visual arts school in the heart of Bend for all ages, and the upcoming four-day summer camps look so intriguing.

Star Wars, 9 to 12 years old

This is a class from Monday to Thursday, June 20 to 23, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Young Jedis will have fun with design and construction projects at this art and engineering camp.

Clay Robots, 6 to 9 years old and 9 to 13 years old

This camp is an opportunity to work with clay. Session 1 is for ages 6 to 9, June 20 to 23, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Session 2 is for ages 9 to 13 and runs from June 27 to 30, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Wonders of watercolor, ages 9 to 12

For young painters, this course explores watercolor techniques and advanced stages such as glazing and multimedia collage. June 27 to 30, 9 a.m. to noon.


Drawing, ages 9 to 12

This is a classic charcoal drawing course July 5-7, for young artists to learn observation, value, shading and blending techniques that will take drawing skills to a new level. .

Sculpture, 9 to 12 years old

Also from July 5 to 7, from 9 a.m. to noon, students enrolled in the Paper Mobiles & Sculptures class will create brightly colored papers and then transform them into mobiles and sculptures.

Clay Pirate Bounty, 6 to 9 years old

Kids will create coins, treasure chests, parrots, and even clay skulls and crossbones. The basics of handcrafting are taught, as well as glazing.

Art Station offers many other camps and courses throughout the summer for kids, including acrylic painting, comics, outdoor drawing, papier-mâché creatures and more.
