Art Appreciation for Grades 1-2
This course of 36 lessons introduces children in the first years of primary school to fine arts with 36 different healthy and delicious paintings for children by famous artists.
The subjects of these paintings are children and their pets, farm animals, flowers and birds. The children in the paintings do a variety of things, including cuddling their pets, hosting a tea party, playing in the sand, pretending to treat patients, and being read to by Grandma. In one painting, a girl stands next to a very large dog, trying to see if she is as tall as he is.
With each painting comes a single paragraph of simple questions designed to bring children to relate to paintings and develop their sense of observation.
All you have to do is print out the paintings from your computer or show them to your child on your computer screen, and talk about what’s in each painting using our questions provided and/or choosing your own questions.
This will prepare your young children for the other levels in this lesson series. Our Level 3 & 4 Art Appreciation Course is also available in our store. It goes even further in introduce artistic terms and concepts through similar (but higher level) discussion questions.
This course includes the biographies of 4 artists at an early elementary level. It also includes a student spreadsheet template and 2 painting treasure hunts (in color and grayscale for printing, with corrections).
